David Bowie GIF: A Tribute to the Legend Bad news for us here on planet Earth, good news for the rest of the cosmos. Ziggy Stardust, the Man Who Fell to Earth, has left this mortal plane. The media will tell you he died, but obviously he’s just slipped into some other dimension that needs him and his music. Our little planet’s been selfish by hogging him. David Bowie’s passed at age 69, departing this life like a BOSS less than two days after releasing his new album. A new album that’s a dark meditation on loss, life, and death. The first lyrics from his new single are, “Look up here, I’m in heaven/I’ve got scars that can’t be seen.” He knew he was leaving and changed his pain into art. We know your pain! But don’t be sad! Take comfort. We’re blessed with almost half a century of not just the legacy of David Bowie, but decades of Bowies, plural, with an “s”. The amazing quality about David Bowie is that we can all have our Bowie. Yours can be the musician behind Diamond Dogs or Low, Heroes or Let’s Dance, Station to Station or Scary Monsters or many more. The list seems endless: Alien Bowie, Sexy Androgynous Gender Rebel Bowie, Techno Bowie, Sophisticated Soul Singer Bowie, Vampire Bowie. They’re all correct and they moved you in whatever way and that’s amazing. Of course, the best is Goblin King Bowie from the 80’s fantasy movie Labyrinth: But his dozens of incarnations never felt phony. Even this Bowie has his charms, whatever Bowie this is: All of these personas are authentically BOWIE! We refuse to call him a chameleon or a shapeshifter, because throughout his transformations he stayed himself while never following a trend. So don’t mourn, celebrate David’s lives by popping on your top Bowie track and dancing around your house. And be sure to let us know your fave Bowie album and persona in the comments section!
