Car Companies Teamed Up to Destroy L.A’s Public Transistor (and Killed it in Other Cities Too)<\/h2>\n

Famous for it’s smog and endless bumper-to-bumper traffic jams,\u00a0Los Angeles is a text book example of the negatives to not having\u00a0a proper public transit system. Except before in the first part of the 20th Century LA DID have a sprawling cheap and effective electric street car system! Operated in the public interest, but run by private companies, the trolleys basically eliminated the need for most people to own cars.<\/p>\n

What happened to it? A conglomerate of corporations related to the auto industry (car manufacturers, tire makers, and oil companies) got together to buy up the company that operated the trolleys and shut them down so that people would be forced to purchase\u00a0cars. And if that’s not mind-blowing enough they did it in many other cities too from Baltimore to Salt Lake City. If this sounds too nutty to be true a government investigation later proved the conspiracy, but by then it was too late. But don’t worry the corporations involved were punished…by having to pay very small fines.<\/p>\n

The CIA Funded a Mad Scientist in Canada to Brainwash People<\/h2>\n

The CIA is mandated to do it’s spooky spy stuff outside of the borders of the US, so when they wanted to get into mad science brain control they outsourced their mad experiments to Canada. Dr. Donald Cameron was a well respected psychiatrist in Montreal, Canada, in the\u00a01960s who had the theory that a mentally ill\u00a0mind could be erased through a number of techniques, then reprogrammed to be healthy. Outside of the healing arts the CIA was VERY interested in his work as they saw its application to the spy game. So they started secretly funding Cameron’s work hoping to later use it in the Cold War.<\/p>\n

The problem is Cameron turned out to be a quack. He tried to fix schizophrenia and other mental illnesses by erasing his patient’s\u00a0minds through massive amounts of shock therapy, chemically-induced comas, and\u00a0paralyzing them through drugs. He’d then play hours of audio recordings with new positive personality traits that he thought would become imprinted on his patient’s brains. All he achieved was turning sick people into sicker people with many of them becoming incontinent vegetables.<\/p>\n

Corporations Tried to Overthrow the President and Install a Fascist Dictatorship<\/h2>\n

No, this isn’t about Trump, lets go back to the Great Depression. Before WW2 the Fascist dictatorships in Germany and Italy were getting international acclaim for their claims that they were beating the Depression and revitalizing their economies (they were mostly lying, but many around the world believed them). While in America, the leftist socialist New Deal of president Roosevelt was bringing aid to millions and jump starting the economy, progress was slow AND it decreased the power of the corporations while increasing their taxes. So, the heads of American business had a simple solution: throw out the president and install the fascist system.<\/p>\n

In 1933 the heads of Time Inc,\u00a0Chase Bank, GM, Goodyear, Standard Oil,\u00a0DuPont, and a politician named Senator Prescott Bush (father to President Bush 1, Grandfather to Bush 2) conspired to back a military coup and overthrow the president and setup\u00a0fascist dictatorship. They approached WW1 war hero\u00a0Major General Smedley Butler with the offer to lead the coup. Fortunately, Butler was a strong believer in democracy and he ratted them out, and he ended up testifying to congress about the conspiracy. And what were the consequences for these conspirator’s treason? Nadda, nothing, zilch! They denied it all and continued on with their lives of power and wealth.<\/p>\n

Iran-Contra Makes Conspiracy Movies Sound Boring<\/h2>\n

Lets get a little more recent and talk about one of the biggest scandals of the 1980s.\u00a0Iran was one of America’s major enemies, and if you don’t believe us watch more action movies or professional wrestling<\/a> from the period where every second bad guy was Iranian. Naturally, as of the US’s big bads, selling weapons to Iran was a clear and obvious NO. But members of the Reagan administration and the military conspired to secretly sell weapons to Iran to raise off book funds for “a good cause,” that cause being money for anti-Communist paramilitary death-squads, the contras,\u00a0in South America.<\/p>\n

Look this is supposed to be a fun and short article so we don’t have time to unpack what we just wrote in the paragraph above. But when Congress said “no” to funding or aiding the contras, a cabal of\u00a0\u00a0deeply anti-communist wingnuts in Reagan’s government decided to get creative. At least this time, the perpetrators were caught and went to jail when this whole insane sitch came out…BUT tons of documents were destroyed before that and we may never know the whole truth or know everyone involved and how deep it ran. So, if you want to lay in bed late at night in the grips of paranoia just remember this conspiracy, which happened in your lifetime, has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.<\/p>\n

As a famous pro, Dixon pumped out prediction-after-prediction, week after week, but we forget the many misses. She also saw WWIII starting in 1958, chose the wrong candidate to win in countless elections, and that the Russians would reach the moon before the USA. When your job is pumping out predictions, odds are you’ll guess right every once and a while.<\/p>\n

Tana Hoy Predicts the Oklahoma Bombing<\/h2>\n

One of the worst domestic terrorist bombings in US history was 1995’s bombing of Federal buildings in Oklahoma. But did a professional psychic named Tana Hoy foresee the tragedy four months before it happened. That’s what Hoy claims, however, what he actually said in a radio interview is that there would be a terrorist attack in the US that year.<\/p>\n

Freaky that the bombings\u00a0happened a few months later BUT Hoy’s prediction was pretty vague. And he went on to make a bunch of losing predictions following Oklahoma involving attacks that never happened. And again, as a professional psychic, he’s got to pump out his prophecies and thanks to the Dixon effect only the hits are remembered.<\/p>\n

If it makes you feel better, lots of people wanted Lincoln dead so that must have sunk into his subconscious so maybe that’s the source of the dream right there. Also, Lamon didn’t tell the story till years later so perhaps he built it up in his mind to be an even more dramatic and prophetic dream.<\/p>\n

Nostradamus Predicts 9\/11<\/h2>\n

And yes, the creators of the movie admit they based him off of Donald Trump. But what was a gag in the 1980s is our terrifying reality now…did Back to the Future predict our present? Valentinus of Rome\u00a0was born in the year 100 and was an important Christian leader when it was still a new religion. He was so influential and had so many followers (think Kim Kardashian<\/a> on Instagram), he almost became one of the first ever popes. But the thing is, his style of Christianity was quite different than what we’re familiar with.<\/p>\n

He taught that the world was an accident, God was sometimes a woman, and that married couples should perform magic sex rituals with each other. Therefore,\u00a0his beliefs and followers were pushed to the margins, but some researchers think Valentine’s Day comes from Valentinus. He had an emphasis on love and mystic sex and was important enough, at the time, to have a day marking him. And it\u00a0would be worth covering up exactly who the day was for as time went on.<\/p>\n

The Mysterious Saint Valentine Who May Not Be Real<\/h2>\n

The mainline story is Valentine’s Day commemorates a saint named Valentine who was executed during a time when Christianity was banned. His crime? Serving as a priest to marry Christian couples who were forbidden by the persecution to be married in their faith. So we got the right date, a guy with the right name, and\u00a0he even dies trying to bring\u00a0lovebirds together. The only problem is no historical records of this dude exist and all the stories seem to come much, much, later than they supposedly happened. Saint Valentine is a legend.<\/p>\n

But even such a huge\u00a0cultural milestone is not without its skeletons. Over the last half century there’s been numerous Super Bowl scandals, and today on MakeAGif we’re going to examine a few of the big ones.<\/p>\n

Super Bowl XXX<\/h2>\n

In 2009, viewers in Tucson, Arizona were treated to more than the average ball playing when adult cable station Club Jenna interrupted the game for 30 seconds. Instead of seeing the Cardinals fourth-quarter touchdown, viewers were treated with full frontal male nudity.<\/p>\n

The Boob Seen ‘Round the World<\/h2>\n

Even though it was just 12 years ago this controversy seems almost quaint now, but at the time it was a HUGE deal. An enormous scandal. Super Bowl XXXVIII’s halftime show ended with\u00a0Justin Timberlake tearing off part a of segment of Janet Jackson’s costume to reveal a flash of her breast for a few seconds before the lights went down….kind of.<\/p>\n

The obviously planned move, which the performers claimed was a “wardrobe malfunction” revealed no more boob than a cheerleaders bikini, Janet was wearing a “nipple guard” over part of her rack. But it still drove the nation insane and started a mini-culture war.<\/p>\n

You’d think this would be a bigger deal than Janet Jackson’s bewb. But bizarrely no one seems to give a fig that\u00a0quarterback Brad Johnson bribed some NFL workers to alter the balls<\/a> used in 2003’s\u00a0Super Bowl\u00a0XXXVII. He admitted it a few years after the fact claiming it was no biggie, just a little extra money to some workers to scuff up the balls and break them in a bit. His confession was initially greeted with\u00a0shrugs and a general “who cares” response.<\/p>\n

But recently people seem a little more uptight that happened. It’s probably thanks to “deflategate”, and the whole common sense approach that it might be sketchy if a player is paying thousands in bribes to alter footballs.<\/p>\n

Super Bowl XXXIII’s Moral Scandal<\/h2>\n

1999 featured a scandal that should appeal to all lovers of irony. On the day before he was to play in Super Bowl XXXIII for the Falcons, defensive back Eugene Robinson received an award for\u00a0“high moral character” from the Christian organization,\u00a0Athletes in Action. Hours later he was picked up by an undercover cop for soliciting a prostitute. Robinson still played in the game only to see the Falcon’s lose.<\/p>\n

More Half-Time Shenanigans<\/h2>\n

The Lights Go Out at Super Bowl XLVII Leading to Conspiracy Theories<\/h2>\n

During 2003’s Super Bowl\u00a0the 49ers were down 28-6 to the Ravens and the outcome of the game was looking obvious. When suddenly the lights went out! A mysterious power outage shut down the game for 34 minutes. The 49ers rallied and made a miraculous comeback…but still lost with the final score being 34-31.
